Two-thirds of asset owners say ESG now crucial but headwinds persist

The appetite to invest along ESG lines has grown hugely over the past five years, but there are four major challenges to this approach that are growing rather than becoming more manageable.

That’s according to Morningstar’s second annual Voice of the Asset Owner survey, which revealed two out of three asset owners (67%) believe ESG has become more material to investment policy in the past five years.

The global quantitative survey, conducted by Morningstar Indexes and Morningstar Sustainalytics, also found that this global cohort is increasing its allocation to ESG strategies, even though challenges to implementation persist.
