Climate Disclosure Legislation Will Usher In A New Era Of ESG Investment

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed a groundbreaking emissions disclosure bill that will require large companies doing business in the state to report their carbon footprints. Senate Bill 253 will mandate companies registered in the U.S. and doing business in California that generate more than $1 billion in annual revenue to disclose emissions, beginning in 2026.

This legislation is expected to be followed by action from the Securities and Exchange Commission to set a national standard for corporate climate disclosures.
